Watching the Olympic games over the past couple of weeks, I’m reminded that years of discipline, sacrifice, and determination come down to one moment.  All the pain that an athlete endures in training and preparing comes down to that one moment in the spotlight.

The level of preparation is insane.  Every hour of sleep is calculated, every ounce of food is measured, every pound in the weight room is carefully weighed out to bring about the best results possible.

When you go for the gold, you go all out!  When you go for the gold you live in a such way that you have no regrets.

beach go for the gold

It’s not about the actual event, it’s about the training and the level of preparation leading up to the event.

Gold medal winners do not devote a part of their week, or a part of their day to training.  They are consumed by it.  It’s a 24/7 mentality day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year.

It’s not what they do, it’s who they are.

Let the Olympics remind you that success is not instantaneous.

Olympians may win the gold in seconds or minutes, but it’s not what happens on competition day that wins the gold.   It’s what they’ve done in the hundreds and thousands of hours leading up to that one moment.

When we see the gold medal going around their neck with all the applause and limelight, don’t ever forget what those athletes did for hours and hours in the dark when no one was watching.

Going for the gold comes with a price. For Olympians….and for you.

You have to ask yourself every day, “Am I willing to pay the price to win the Gold?”

The goals and dreams you have for your family, for your business or career, for your health, for your finances, for your education, for your personal growth, for every area of your life all require sacrifice, discipline, and a commitment to persevere even when times are tough.

We live in a microwave society.   People want to put something in the microwave for 3-4 minutes and then sit down to a gourmet meal.  It’s called instant gratification.

People want to be successful, but don’t want to do want’s necessary to get there.

Going for the gold means you realize success doesn’t happen over night.  You have to be committed to the process….and sometimes is a very long process.

The road to victory isn’t easy.  No one is born a champion.  You have to go out and earn your gold medal day after day after day.  You have to get up every morning and say to yourself, “I’m giving everything I’ve got.  I’m going to pay the price today to the get the reward I want tomorrow.”

Winning Gold is costly.  It’s going to cost you a lot, but when you believe in what you are doing, and you really want it bad enough, you’ll pay the price.

Let these Olympics inspire you to continue fighting for your dreams.
